AUP: A Gateway or a Getaway?
The New AUP Gate under construction, taken in January 26, 2008. “I received the AUP GATEWAY progress in pictures. The riprap of smooth stones of various shades of colour is artistically and securely cobbled. The backdrop of luxuriant tropical trees provide an ambience of a soothing, restful rural setting in a suburban landscape. Architecturally, the design is a bold statement of permanence and security assuring its confines safety, tranquility, privacy, and peace. It's very encouraging to see it rising from the crust of the good earth into an imposing landmark of welcome.” VAL CERNA

A gateway is something that serves as an entrance or a means of access, while, getaway is the act or an instance of escaping, the start, as in a race, or a place appropriate for a vacation. (dictionary.com).

Yes, to many of us who had passed through the gate can only look back and appreciate how AUP had been a part of what we are now. To some, the gate had become a landmark of turnaround in their lives, just how many stories have you heard of a hopeful youth who came into the portals of AUP with their last coins paid as fare to the jeepney? and enter AUP with almost nothing in their hands. Others, as I heard from my former students, found the gate while escaping from the cares of this world, entered AUP and their outlook in life had change. To some, AUP has just become another recreation site, to relax and be refreshed. Whatever it is, AUP can be gateway or a getaway. Dear AUPians, are you not aware that you are a sort of a portal too? An entry, a passage, to someone who seeks better life beyond. One can be a gateway or getaway in this life.

CONDOLENCES TO THE CEBRIANS
January 24, 2008, 1:15 a. m. Cavite Time. With great sadness in our hearts, please be informed that our beloved Dra. Ananita (Nannete to acquaintances)Gaño Cebrian has rested from her work some 12 hours ago at our hospital, Manila Adventist Medical Center, formerly MSH. Most likely, it has been officially reported already by our PUC-AUP Cyberlink Correspondents stationed here. She was taken to MAMC two weeks ago. And last week, according to our church pastor, she was about to go back to AUP and to her students (she still teaches until now) when the unexpected happened. If I understand it right some complications did it.
Her body was brought here at the Finster Chapel at 9:45 last night and the first Service was presented by the Barangay Matiyaga. Schedule of internment is not yet final since her children are still to arrive.
Let us pray for Brother Larry Cebrian and the family.

This afternoon, Tuesday, shortly after lunch, our beloved Dra. Ananita Gaño Cebrian is laid to her "temporary resting place" in Sanctuario de Padua Memorial Park, at Pooc, Silang, Cavite a few kilometers away from AUP.
An hour-and-a-half Necrological Service was held at PIC, with Pastor Abner S. Roque, our NPUM President saying the last comforting words.
All the children and their respective families came, except Jun (husband of Donna) who is in the Caribbean.
All your LOVE messages, especially from the Naga Viewers were printed and given to Sir Cebrian. Donna says she would sit down and respond to you as soon as she can. Let us continue to pray for the family and thank you for your expressions of condolence.

This short video was prepared by a sheriff's office in Florida but is certainly appropriate no matter where we live. New concepts of thievery have a way of spreading. It just takes two minutes but I'm sure you won't think your time is wasted.
Stay safe!
