AUP Academy Week of Prayer
Despite the government’s suspension of classes on Thursday and Friday due to typhoon "Egay" AUP Academy’s Week of Prayer meetings on August 13-18, 2007 continued, to study the remaining 5 of the 11 topic series: one with the college family during Midweek Prayer meeting and the other four on Friday vespers, Sabbath School, Hour of Worship, and AY with PIC church members and others from neighboring churches over the week-end. Guest speaker was missionary doctor, nurse, theologian and health lecturer, Dr. Larose McCluskey, with her 15 year old daughter Jenny. As a team they presented Jesus Christ and how he is symbolized by every detail of the sanctuary and its furniture and how important it is to "Follow the Lamb". The presentation was a first in the history of AUP wherein a life-size Sanctuary/Tabernacle and its furniture, curtains, and implements, including the Ark of the Covenant was set on the stage for two weeks. During the first week it was in the Elementary Gym. On the second week, from Monday to Wednesday it was in the Philippine International Church and Friday and Saturday in the University Gymnasium.
A precession of the Ark carried on the shoulders by four men followed by a flutist (Jenny) and the speaker who were all dressed in white priestly costumes signaled the start and the end of the program. The routine followed the description of how it was during the days of the Israelites when they worshiped.
A total of 25 Academy students signified their desire for baptism on Tuesday, the second day of the Week of Prayer; however meetings with the Academy student body were cut short because of heavy rains and gusty winds. There were no classes for two days prior to baptism; only 11 were able to make it on Sabbath. The rest will be baptized on a later date.
This isn’t the first series of meetings Dr. Larose conducted in the Philippines. A few months ago she held meetings in Mindoro. Her "Follow the Lamb" seminars have ministered to various parts of the globe from North and South America, to Europe and Africa. Before speaking to the AUP family, she was Week of Prayer speaker at Manila Adventist Medical Center and School of Medical Arts (MAMC and SMA). Next she conducted the same in AUP Elementary where more then 100 wrote their names in a special book to signify their desire for baptism and then in AUP Academy. Next stop is at Pasay City Adventist Academy (PCAA).

[update on AUP's current Enrolment ---jgg]

On June 18, 2007 the University welcomed 4,414 students enrolled in the University for All Levels with 3,385 students coming from the college level. This number was raised to 4,656 by June 21 according to the Registrar's Office.
But there was a slight decline in the number of enrollees this year according to Mrs. Rosalinda Franche, one of the faculty personnels of the Registrar's Office. Some students were not able to return due to financial difficulties, and others due to their negligence in the application processing the last year's enrollment papers on time.
The enrollment statistics of the Adventist University of the Philippines in college level stands at 3,658, as of June 22, 2007. Though dropping from its previous 1,636 to a current level of 1,472, the College of Nursing (CON) still leads the number of enrollees. The CON SPAC extension classes have 72 students enrolled this year compared to the last year's 100, and the Caregiving course has yet zero (0) enrollees against 49 last year.
The College of Arts, Sciences, and Technology has 651 enrollees compared to 676 students last year (2006). The trend of lower enrollment is also evident in other colleges such as the College of Business, which registered 580 students from last year's 599. The College of Education has 295 students against last year's 298; while the College of Health enrolled 161 students compared to last year's 167. The College of Theology reports with 140 enrollees from 145 last year. The College of Dentistry, however has increased its enrollees to 92 compared to 81 in 2006.

This short video was prepared by a sheriff's office in Florida but is certainly appropriate no matter where we live. New concepts of thievery have a way of spreading. It just takes two minutes but I'm sure you won't think your time is wasted.
Stay safe!
