AUP Academy Choir and Young Voices Perform in EK
EK is short for Enchanted Kingdom the country’s most prestigious carnival theme park located in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. “Ride –all –you –can “entrance ticket is 600 pesos for each person, and yes, the Academy Choir and the Young Voices performed in the park in two separate occasions this holiday season.
Each group presented a 35-40 minute concert at 3 pm and 5 pm on December 26 by the Academy Choir and on the 27th by the YV.. The performers together with their parents, other family members, friends and teachers had the chance to enjoy the rides for free after their 5pm concert. The EK appointment and treat is part of their prize package as champions of the “Himig Harana choir festival” in St. Scholastica’s College, Silang. Cavite . Choir directors are Jewel Bitco Solidum for the Academy Choir and Joel Punay for the Young Voices.

On behalf of Leo Arit, PUCA/AUPA Alumni president and the steering committee I would like to invite you all to the Grand Academy Alumni homecoming set on March 22, 2008. PIC Celebrates Thanksgiving
The Philippine International Church celebrated its yearly thanksgiving amidst the patter of rain that chimed with the music of the many singing groups of AUP namely the AUP Ambassadors, the Celestial Echoes, the Unceasing Cantica, the Voice of Indonesia, the Young Voices and the Regent Square Chorale. The Young Envoys opened the celebration with an instrumental rendition and the president of the university, Dr. Robin Saban, offered the dedicatory prayer.
AUP Alumnus Tops PBS Exam
DR. SHERWIN LOWE BULATAO RODRIGO, an AUP alumnus and son of Pastor Simeon and Prof. Loida Rodrigo, got the 1st Place with a rating of 99.7 percent in the National Surgical Residency In-Training Examination by the Philippine Board of Surgery on September 2, 2007 (added info at http://www.pcs.org.ph/ index.php?s=newsevents_view.
Dr. Rodrigo also won in a research paper contest during the Philippine College of Surgeons Southern Conference held on September 28-29, 2007, in Bacolod City. The title of the research paper is: An Experimental Evaluation of the Pinch on Inch Test as an Alternative or Supplementary Maneuver in Detecting Peritonitis. Dr. Rodrigo is currenrly the Chief Resident of the Department of Surgery of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

Home and School Association (HSA) Celebrates Family Day
December 2 was Family Day at AUP Academy with the theme " Kapamilya na, Kapuso Pa" printed on colorful team t-shirts (pink, green, blue, peach, yellow and lavender) . Mrs. Flor Villa Marticio, AUP Guidance Services director was Devotional Speaker. A parade around the campus by colors followed the morning worship with majorette Janella De Leon and the Academy Band leading. Exhibition performances of the band and the Pathfinder delegates to Thailand was held before the Open House, which was a contest of homerooms. Group Games by colors and families added excitement to the celebration. Games played were hit the pot, pabitin, water balloon catching, family sack race, food -eating relay and others led by teachers Peter Datoy, Nera Nama Valdez and Aser Torres. A grand potluck feast was served for lunch coordinated by teachers Noemi Manuel Quietson, Decie Ulap. and parents Mrs. Castronuevo, and Mrs. Arit. Awarding of top ingatherers and academic achievers followed lunch.
The Lemon Yellow team was declared champion of the event. In the afternoon, Music classes under Ms. Jewel Bitco Solidum, by sections and countries presented different musical interpretations and songs from different eras and countries
"It was a well-attended family affair (almost one thousand in attendance)" according to Mrs. Arit, last year's HSA president, who like the other parents stayed to participate from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. "We had fun," said Mr. and Mrs. Balbin parents who came over from Pangasinan. This year's HSA president is Pastor Eliezer Barrientos who also heads the HSA project which is the stage of the Academy Auditorium, in progress and is expected to finish before the end of the school year.

AUP Choirs Win Choirfest

The AUP Academy Choir and the AUP Elementary Grade School Choir won back-to-back championship trophies and a 12,000-peso cash prize each in the recently concluded Himig Harana 2007 song festival finals sponsored by St. Scholastica's College on December 8, 2007.
Conducting the AUP Academy Choir is Ms. Jewel Solidum, AUPA music teacher, while Joel Punay conducts the elementary choir composed mainly of Young Voices members. There were six finalists in the elementary category and seven in the high school category.
The contest proper began at 4:00 p.m., however, the AUP choirs were allowed to arrive and sing last, in order for them to observe the Sabbath at AUP. The Choirs left the campus after sunset on Saturday. The Academy choir arrived while group number 5 was still singing; the AUP Academy choir was number 7, while the AUP Elementary choir was number 6. It was the tradition of the Choir festival for the winners to sing in the ceremonial lighting of the campus Christmas Tree. The Academy choir sang "Kumukutikutitap" while the Elementary choir sang Oh Holy Night, both contest pieces of "Himig Harana 2007".
Both choirs are under the College of Education (COE) which celebrates Education Week next week. What an appropriate way to start the COE week with two championship trophies for the two laboratory schools of the COE! Choir members give back all the glory to God
CES SLATES NOV 18 GRADUATION
TWO HUNDRED FORTY-NINE single and married students of the Community Extension Services (CES) will graduate on November 18, 2007.
Twenty (20) students will graduate from Electronics, 59 from Basic Computer, 31 from automotive, 54 from Welding, 73 from computer Technician, 7 from Hydro-phonics, and 5 from Baking.
AUP INDONESIANS ALUMNI ORGANIZE
TO HELP PROMOTE AUP education and establish stronger continuity of their educational lineage AUP Indonesian graduates organized two AUP Alumni Associations (AAA), one in Bandung and one in Jakarta. The AAA Jakarta Chapter interim officers are: Joseph Peranginangin.. President: J.A Mamahit, Vice President; Franklin Hutabarat, Treasurer; Linda Peranginangin, Secretary. The AAA Bandung Chapter interim officers are: Bruce Sumendap, President; Lim Henriyana. Vice President; Branson Karwuur, Treasurer; and Laura Sumendap, Secretary.

COE Faculty Wins in Workers Year-end Party
Representing the Blue team, the AUP Academy, Elementary and COE bagged most of the prizes given away during the workers year-end party with the theme “ Tawa to the max, kiliti to the bones” at the University Gym on December 20, 2007. Following are the winners in the games and contests:

Other highlights of the affair were Christmas carols from the Canticlaires and the Young Voices, a comedy play which is a Tagalog version of “Why Women Wash the Dishes” directed by Dr. Romeo Barrios with a cast of selected faculty, Meals, Games and contests by colors (there were 6 teams) and raffle draws. Chair of the Socials committee is Amie Lim Cordial, AUP internal auditor.
AUP LIS Majors Rank 3rd in Quiz Bee
AUP’s Meshella Franche and Ruby Jean Villarta ranked 3rd in the National Quiz Bee for Library and Information Science majors held at the National Library last November 26, 2007. The University of Santo Tomas and the University of the Philippines came in first and second respectively.

ACSU-AAI Visits AUP For Accreditation Review
The accreditation team of the Association of Christian Schools Colleges and Universities Accrediting Agency, Inc. (ACSU-AAI) arrived in AUP on Monday, November 19, and is currently reviewing the MBA and Accountancy programs of the University for a possible 5-year Level II re-accreditation.
The accrediting team whose activities will end today, November 23, is composed of Dr. Susie Saliut, Overall Chairperson, and members: Prof. Rosalinda Monzon. Prof. Reseller Delloro, Dr. Benjamin Dayrit, Dr. Earl Jude Cleope, and Dr. Carmelita Tiglao
PHILIPPINE MALE SINGERS BAG TWO BRONZES AND A CASH PRICE
THE PHILIPPINE MALE Singers (PMS), composed mostly of Seventh-day Adventist members and alumni of Adventist University of the Philippines, won two bronze medals and brought home a cash prize of three thousand dollars in the 3rd APEC Busan Choral Festival & Competition held in Busan, South Korea. The competition was held on October 31 to November 4, 2007.
PMS President Sonny Batocabe (Chair, ComDev Dept.) and member Shall Regalado (CI at CON) are AUP faculty members. Under the direction of Robert Delgado, an alumnus and resident arranger of the Philippine Madrigal Singers for 10 years, the choir has represented the Philippines and participated in numerous choral festivals in the Philippines and abroad. Moreover, it has given command performances to various dignitaries and Ambassadors in Europe as it has also given goodwill concerts to local and Pilipino communities to all parts of Europe, USA and Asia. Fine Arts Student Artwork Exhibited
OUT OF MORE than a thousand entries to the Annual(40th) Pilipinas Shell Arts Competition, Fine Arts graduating Student, Jolo Shanda (Guyo) Angel's entry was chosen as one of the 100 best artworks exhibited at the Art (Ayala) Museum in Makati City.
